HIGHLIGHTS OF UNION BUDGET 2020

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget 2020 on Saturday. The focus of the budget 2020 was on raising the purchasing power by cutting income tax rates and boosting rural income, since the economy is hitting a six-year low GDP growth.

The speech of Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman went beyond 2 hour 30 minutes. This was the longest Budget speech by any finance minister. She broke her own record of a 2-hour-17-minute-long maiden UNION BUDGET 2020 speech in July 2019.

2020 UNION BUDGET

Raising customs duty on a variety of products ranging from tableware and kitchenware, electrical appliances to footwear, furniture, stationery and toys was proposed by the finance minister, to give a level playing field to domestic companies and boost ‘Make in India’.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said while presenting the Union Budget for 2020-21, “People of India have unequivocally given their janaadesh to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to form the government again, for not just political stability, but have also showed their faith in our economic policy. She added, this is a budget to boost people’s income and enhance their purchasing power.”
