Important Facts:

Article 52 to 78 in Part V of the Constitution deal with the Union Executive. The union executive consists of the president, the vice president, the prime minister, the council of ministers and the Attorney General of India.

  • Article 52 of the Constitution of India says that there shall be a President of India.
  • Article 53 says that all the executive powers of the Union shall be exercised by him either directly or through officers subordinate to him.
  • The President of India is the Head of the State and Supreme Commander of the armed forces.
  • He is elected by the member of an electoral College that comprise all elected members of both Houses of Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies of the State and Union Territories of India.
  • The president holds Office for a term of five years.
