1.Indian Air Force successfully conducted mid-air refuelling of Tejas MK I

Indian Air Force for the first time successfully conducted mid-air refuelling of Tejas MK I fighter jet by Indian Air Force’s Russian built Il-78 tanker.

  • Dry link up means no fuel was transferred between the 2 aircrafts.
  • The tanker was launched from IAF’s base in Agra while LCA Tejas fighter was launched from Gwalior.
  • Nine more tests will be held including the wet tests where the actual transfer of fuel will take place.

2. The Indian Navy has won the coveted KAKADU Cup 2018

The Indian Navy has won the coveted KAKADU Cup 2018 in Australia while taking part in the KAKADU multilateral maritime exercise.

  • It was held in the coast of Darwin with 3000 personnel from 27 countries.
  • From the Indian side INS Sahyadri took part on the exercise.

3. Anshula Kant was appointed as the MD of SBI

State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed Anshula Kant as Managing Director of the Bank. She has been appointed to the post for 2 years.

  • Prior this appointment, Kant was the bank’s Deputy Managing Director.
  • With this appointment, SBI now has four MDs – PK Gupta, DK Khara and Arijit Basu.

4. Hima Das named as the Sports Ambassador of Assam

Indian sprinter Hima Das has been officially named as the Sports Ambassador of Assam.

  • CM Sarbanand Sonowal handed over a cheque worth Rs 1.6 crore to Hima and also offered her a job in the senior category of Sports and Youth Welfare Department.
  • He also announced to develop 500 village stadiums in the state.

5. International Literacy Day: 8 September

International Literacy Day, celebrated annually on 8 September, is an opportunity for Governments, civil society and stakeholders to highlight improvements in world literacy rates, and reflect on the world’s remaining literacy challenges.

  • This year’s theme is ‘Literacy and skills development’.

6. India Blue win Duleep Trophy 2018

India Blue thrashed defending champion India Red by an innings and 187 runs in the final to win the Duleep Trophy.

  • Spinners Deepak Jagbir Hooda (5 for 56) and Saurabh Kumar (5 for 51) needed just 10.5 overs on the fourth day to bundle out India Red for 172 in the second innings.
  • The Duleep Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket competition played in India.
  • It is named after Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji.

7. The three-day World Hindu Congress begins in Chicago

The three-day World Hindu Congress has begun in Chicago, the USA. Over 2000 delegates from across the globe are participating in this mega event.

  • The theme of World Hindu Congress is ‘think collectively, achieve valiantly’.

8. Odia poet Satrughna Pandav will be honoured ‘Sarala Puraskar’ 2018

Noted Odia poet Satrughna Pandav will be honoured with the prestigious 39th edition of the ‘Sarala Puraskar’ award 2018 for his poetry collection ‘Misra Dhrupad’.

  • The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 5,00,000 and a citation, will be presented to Pandav on October 26.
  • The ‘Sarala Puraskar’ was instituted by eminent Odia industrialist late Dr Bansidhar Panda and late Ila Pnada in 1979.

9. Bibek Debroy conferred ‘Honoris Causa’ by UEM

Dr. Bibek Debroy, an Indian economist, indologist and author, has been conferred ‘Honoris Causa’ by the University of Engineering & Management (UEM) in Kolkata.

  • He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM).
  • Mr. Debroy is also the Member of the NITI Aayog, the think tank of Government of India (GoI).
  • ‘Honoris Causa is a degree awarded without examination as a mark of esteem.
